Foundations of Meditation - Hosted By Drala Mountain Center
Slow Down, Breathe Deeply - You Have Arrived…
Within houses a deep peace, find out how we get there…
Whether you're brand new to meditation or looking to return to the basics, Foundations of Meditation offers a supportive and accessible entry point into contemplative practice. One of my favorite things to teach in any meditation retreat is how the foundations of meditation philosophy and the practices of settling the body-mind fit into our daily life.
So many times people feel meditation practices are either too hard, only for when things calm down and we find space to do it. Yet the time is NOW and these foundational teachings help us to deal with all the things we feel may be blocking our way to a regular practice of meditation. The messy, the overwhelm and "too hard right now" can all be held in loving kindness. Come as you are and find the calm within just waiting for you to discover.
In the serene natural setting of Drala Mountain Center's 600 acres of forest land, I will guide you throughout this weekend of meditation and methodology as we explore how the philosophy of waking up to life—in all its aspects, the good, the bad, the ugly—has a way of settling inside our nervous systems when we understand how to work with the constant stream of reality according to a method used for thousands of years to invite calm and arouse compassion.
Participants will be guided through the essential principles of mindfulness and awareness meditation, learning simple techniques for calming the mind, working with thoughts and emotions, and cultivating presence in everyday life. I always lead meditation grounded in Calm Abiding or Shamatha, and work with group needs around adjusting meditation, explaining the role of our body and mind connection.
The retreat will also weave in foundational Buddhist teachings to offer context and inspiration for your practice—highlighting meditation's deeper roots in wisdom, compassion, and self-discovery. Sessions will include guided meditations and teachings, group discussion, and time for reflection in nature. Discover relaxation and wakefulness in Drala Mountain Center's amazing and sacred landscape.
No previous experience is necessary—just a curiosity about meditation and a willingness to explore the stillness within.
Immerse yourself in the Foundations of Meditation program, where contemplative practices are designed to unlock insights and inspire. You have an open invitation to walk the sacred land or visit the Great Stupa, and optional social evening events. Experience the freedom of a spacious retreat that invites you to explore this mountain sanctuary at your own pace.
